The RRU has formed many community food co-operatives across the UK and we presently oversee in excess of 300 community food co-operatives across Wales. Where possible we link food co-ops to local growers or suppliers, supporting the local economy and in turn reducing food miles.
These community groups have formed the basis for the delivery of a broad range of sustainable community based initiatives such as Cook and Eat sessions, Patchwork Gardens, Farm Visits, Fruit Tuck Shops in schools and Fuel for Sport. Christmas in a Box (a food hamper scheme) is a good example of a project that connects urban and rural communities to the benefit of both.
Our work has been evaluated by specialists. We believe the testimonials of our volunteers and support by awarding bodies best expresses our success to date.
